From bum cleavage to saggy bottom: Finding the right pair of jeans is more stressful than moving house [wholesale jeans]
Finding the perfect pair of jeans can be an arduous task.
But a survey has revealed that the experience leaves many feeling stressed out and depressed.
Out of 1000 women surveyed, 43 per cent said that purchasing denims left them feeling more anxious than moving house with it being most traumatic for those aged 50 plus.
consumers said that skinny fits make them feel fat and unattractive while two thirds of women aged 50 and over confirmed it as the most stressful of all their clothes-buying experiences.
Many claimed that fashionable denim brands make them appear overweight and the cuts display too much 'bum cleavage'.
Spokesperson for isme.com Jackie Lewis said: 'However much you might spend on a pair of jeans, an ill-fitting pair can take you from fashionable to frumpy in seconds.
'For trousers and jeans it's all about the waist, which thickens as you age - if mature women simply buy a larger size to accommodate their waist, they find that the trousers are too large on the hips and sag around the bottom.'
Over 50s cited 'muffin top' or 'bum cleavage' as the most common problems with low-hanging hipsters and drainpipe styles.
Loose Women presenter Lynda Bellingham, 62, a brand ambassador for isme.com, added: 'We've all been there, trying to squeeze into the skinniest of jeans or doing up a pair to find they create that dreaded muffin top.
'Like so many people, I am tired of the high street's 'one-size-fits-all' philosophy.
'50+ women still want fashionable clothes, outstanding choice and prices to suit all budgets - and one that understands what looks good on a more mature woman's shape.'
And it seems that jeans are not the only item that women over 50 are dissatisfied with.
Half believe that clothes available don't fit properly while 23 per cent think brands aimed at 'the older woman' are too frumpy.
